Previous Updates (Archive)

  • Apr 19: Minor updates to Ring size exchanges: There are two options: i) if you are, or will be, in Saskatoon you can exchange your ring for a different size in person if you like.  Please contact the Camp Secretary, Denard Lynch, to arrange a time.  ii) If you wish to exchange your ring by mail please:
    • go to the “Replacements” page on this site and use the form provided for replacements (sorry, this form is also not “mobile friendly” yet so may appear very small on a phone)
    • Fill out all the required fields with your information (similar to the registration form) as best you can
    • In the “Ring Size*” field, select the new size you would like us to send
    • Fill the other fields normally  except:
    • In the field labeled “Which year?“, scroll all the way to the bottom of the pulldown and select “size exchange”
    • You can add any explanatory notes or clarification in the “Comments” field.
    • This form will also ask you to authorize us to use your information for replacement purposes before your can “Submit”
    • You will then be taken back to the “Replacements” page. Note: there is no charge for size exchanges at present. We are still exchanging for a different size as long as your ring is not showing any signs of wear; do not submit another payment.
    • We will typically include a return envelope for you in which you can return your original ring to us via mail.  Please remember to do so in a timely manner.
    • We normally try to mail out replacements once per week, but may increase frequency if volume is high
  • Mar 24: Ring mailout:  All ring/certificates were delivered to Canada Post Mar 24 and are in the mail.  If yours does not arrive in a reasonable time(~2 weeks), contact the Camp Secretary.
  • Mar 23: Ring mailout:  All ring/certificates not picked up by end of today (Tuesday) will go to Canada Post tomorrow (Wed).  I will post another note to confirm they are with Canada Post when that happens.
  • Mar 22: Ring envelope pickup:  For those we have been able to verify, you can still personally pickup your ring and certificate envelope.  These will be available at 443 Wakabayashi Cres. in Saskatoon.  Please let me know, call, text or email when you’d like to come by.  I can offer “contactless pickup” (let me know when your almost here and I’ll put it in my mailbox for you).  Follow health protocols if you’d like to just step inside to pick up, or if you’d like to try it on and possibly exchange for a different size.  Wear a mask, follow health protocols.  Remaining envelopes will be mailed ~Tuesday, but if you let me know, I can hold yours for whenever you can make it by.
    • Note: you can also visit again (same guy, same place as above) to exchange your ring for a different size (still at no charge).  All the other information above also applies.
  • Mar 20: Test/Webcast updates:
    • Ring Package personal pickup possible:  For those in Saskatoon who have completed the ceremony and responded positively, we will be able to offer personal pickup of your ring and certificate envelope.  This will be available Saturday (Mar 20) and Sunday (Mar 21) from 2:30 – 4:30 PM each day at 443 Wakabayashi Cres. in Saskatoon.  Wear a mask , practice physical distancing and other measures as directed.  Remaining envelopes will be mailed early next week.
    • 11:45 – last minute change to how you will need to answer the question later, OR to submit any questions.  Please use the dialog box (Question box) to submit any questions.  You will need to put in a name and email address to submit.  Make sure you use the email you registered with us. Any instructions written on the “question/statement” slide may now be out of date.  A banner should pop up at that time reminding you to use the “Question” box to respond, put in your email, name, response and click “Submit” (ignore the message you might get mentioning “registration”).  Just put a “Yes” or “No” in the box when responding to the ceremony question slide (no quotes).
    • 10:02 Chat channel is just being set up for test.  Stand by…
  • Mar 19: Misc. Webcast info:   If your emails get buried quickly (as mine do), the registration confirmation with the webcast link came from registration@isilive.ca.  The “Low/Medium/High” buttons at the bottom right of the video area will allow you to select a different video resolution to match your connection speed.  As an absolutely last resort, you can call in by phone: 855 703 8985 (Canada Toll-free); 833 548 0282 (US Toll-free_
Meeting ID: 768 160 9419; Passcode: 123456. We can’t track you by your phone number, so try to listen on the same device on which you are watching the webcast unless that is not working at all.  Tech support during the webcast will be staffed by Chris @ 306-975-7815.
  • Mar 19: Email address check:   The email I sent out yesterday was necessarily bcc’d to all recipients, but you can find out which email address you originally provided by checking the “To:” on your “Iron Ring Candidate/Guest Input Confirmation” email.  To repeat, you should have received both a confirmation email when you filled our our registration form, and another email yesterday providing the connection link for the ceremony webcast tomorrow.  (Again, look closely in your spam/junk folder(s) if you didn’t see them in your inbox.)  Reminder: rings and certificates will only be mailed out after we have verified your attendance, confirmatory response and payment (i.e. not before the ceremony).  (If you are, or will be, in Saskatoon, I may have an option for you to pick up in person if I can work it out; check back here for an update following the ceremony.)
  • Mar 18: Event Link sent out:   Email invitations for the event were sent out this morning.  Contact me if you can’t find yours (be sure to check spam/junk first!).  If you try the test video and are having problems, be patient – I am waiting to hear if there is a “help line” you can call.  The “help” link on the host page may be of some use (some technical information).
  • Mar 15: Event invites:   Email invitations for the event have not been sent yet.  I am dealing with some logistics with the service provider.  An update will be posted here letting you know when you might expect these.
  • Mar 8: Eligibility:   To be clear, this coming ceremony is open to any eligible candidates.  Any previous graduate (or anticipated to graduate in spring 2021) from an accredited engineering program at a Canadian university, or qualified foreign-trained engineers working in Canada.  Please register by Mar 10th if you wish to participate!
  • Mar 6: Registration deadline extended:  The previous deadline (Mar 6) has been extended to Mar 10th.  If you intend to participate in the Mar 20th virtual ceremony, please register and pay as soon as possible.  (Note: the recent email to 2021 grads from the Engineering Student Centre was to remind you to register online by Mar 10th.  If you have already registered there is no need to take any action.)
  • Mar 4: Registration deadline:  Forgot to mention; we’d like you to register by Mar 6.  Planning is going reasonably well, so may be able to extend a couple of days, but please register as soon as possible (pass the word to your colleagues in case they aren’t monitoring these posts).  We have a deadline to get everyone’s email address to the service provider so they can get the invitations out on time.
  • Mar 4: Time for Mar 20th event finalized:  There will be a “connection test” period at 10:00 AM (’til about 10:30) when you are very strongly encouraged to use this time to ensure that your device can connect to the server so you will not miss the ceremony. We anticipate that we will be too preoccupied to provide any assistance right before the ceremony.  The ceremony connection will open again at 12:30 PM displaying preliminary information; the ceremony will commence at 1:00 PM sharp. You must be online for the entire ceremony and answer the verification question(s) in order to receive a ring. (If you are disconnected, re-connect immediately; a very short “grace period” may be granted for network circumstances beyond tour control.) (Note: you should receive an email invitation to “register” for the event with the service provider  about a week before the event. It will be very important that you register using the same email that you provided in your registration.  This email may also include suggested testing procedures/links for your device.)     Registration Confirmation emails:  If you do not received a confirmation email when you register (initial or update), please check your spam/junk folders.  This is almost always due to (in order) i) the email being tagged as spam, ii) you are checking a different email address than you entered or iii) you have entered your email incorrectly (twice!).  If you still can’t find it – contact me.
  • Feb 22: Candidate registration form error: I corrected an error in the Candidate Registration form last week, but missed the underlying data value.  If you registered when “2021” wasn’t an available selection (for “expect to graduate” if qualifying NSID), or recently registered (before Feb 22, 8:30 AM), please check the year shown on your confirmation email and send us an “update” if it is not correct (e.g. shows 2020 when it should be 2021).  Thank you.
  • Here are some ways to determine your ring size: i) get sized at a jeweller (usually free of charge), ii) “build you own ring sizer”; here’s a link with some self-sizing advice (also uses this size chart), iii) use a paper template (look online, but be sure you’re using the right chart for Canadian sizes), iv)
  • There will be two separate registration forms: one for candidates (those wishing to receive a ring) and the other for guests (previously obligated engineers who wish to attend).
  • This registration process  through our site is to gather the information we need from you (both candidates and guests) so you can be “invited” to join the ceremony and to complete your registration as an “obligated engineer”.  You will be sent a link and instructions about a week before the ceremony asking you to register with a service provider for this ceremony.
  • There will be a rehearsal on the 20th about 2 hours before the actual ceremony to make sure everything is set up and you can connect successfully.  (There may also be a link or site where you can check compatibility of your equipment
  • In order to receive a ring, you are required to attend the entire ceremony and willingly recite the obligation (which will be led be a Warden of the Camp).  There will be an online opportunity during the ceremony for you to confirm that have met this requirement.
  •  Unfortunately, we have not been able to figure out how to accommodate “Special presentations” under these circumstances.  Health guidelines permitting, you may be able to virtually attend in the company of your obligated friend(s).
  • As details are finalized, the “logistics” section below should also be updated.
  • Thank you for your cooperation and patience!
